The Character Counts!sm character trait for the last six weeks is citizenship.
Good citizens…….
· do their share
· help their communities
· follow rules and laws
· respect authority
· take care of the environment
Ideas for teaching citizenship at home:
· Use the word citizenship in conversation with your child. Talk often about being a good citizen, using examples from your own life and the news.
· Tell your child that you want him or her to be a good citizen. Reinforce behaviors that show good citizenship.
· Set a good example by being a good citizen in what you say and do. Take your child with you to the voting booth. Remember actions speak louder than words.
· Provide opportunities for your child to participate in helping the community. Volunteerism provides children an opportunity to feel good about themselves.
